NEW ZEALAND – SINGAPORE                                                     one night in Singapore

Day 1-2: We depart New Zealand bound for Singapore and a one night stop before continuing to Amman via Cairo and the start of our exciting journey of discovery of Egyptand Jordan.

SINGAPORE – CAIRO - AMMAN                                                       two nights in Amman

Day 3: We arrive in Amman early afternoon and will be transferred to our hotel where the remainder of the day is at leisure.

Day 4: This morning we travel to Jerash, less than one hour from Amman and drive through the picturesque hills of ancient Gilead. It is famous for the Triumphal Arch, the Hippodrome, the great elliptical forum, the theatres, baths and gateways, the Roman bridge and the wide street of columns that lead to the Temple of Artemis. On the return we will do a sightseeing tour of the main features of Amman.

AMMAN – BETHANY – DEAD SEA                                                     two nights at Dead Sea

Day 5: Today we depart Amman and travel to the Dead Sea via Bethany. Bethany is significant in terms of the Bible, as it was the place where John lived and performed Baptisms. Jesus was also known to have fled there to avoid persecution from the Israelites. Following this excursion we continue on to our destination of the Dead Sea.

Day 6:  Resting at 396m below sea level lays the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth and over 3 million years old! With a salt content of 33% compared to the average sea salt content of 3% it’s not hard to see why it has the highest salinity of all the seas water. It is also entirely devoid of life. The Dead Sea is a giant reservoir of minerals, natural salts and mud and healing benefits range from the cure of acne and eczema, to the relief of joint pain and rheumatism. Others simply find them a wonderful place to relax.

DEAD SEA – PETRA                                                                               two nights in Petra

Day 7:  Today we depart the Dead Sea via the Kings Highway through Mujib Valley to the Crusader castle in Kerak. This 12th-century hilltop fortress preserves galleries, towers, chapels and ramparts. We, continue to Petra along the Desert Highway and check-in to our hotel.

Day 8: Get ready to be amazed! All but lost to the modern world until 1812, Petra is a real archaeological gem, full of ancient tombs and ruins ripe for the modern-day discoverer. We take a horse-carriage ride through to the narrow canyon or 'siq' to the spectacular main entrance to the city. We’ll see amazing sights such as the Street of Facades, the Theatre, Colonnaded Street and Qasr al Bint. Explore one of the world’s most incredible antiquities, Al Khazneh (The Treasury) water channels, and staircases. After all this excitement there’ll be time to relax at the hotel this afternoon.

PETRA – AQABA –NUWEIBA –SHARM EL SHEIKH                  three nights in Sharm El Sheikh

Day 9: Leaving Jordan today we make our way to the port at Aqaba, where we’ll take a ferry to Nuweiba and our first entry into Egypt. On arrival we’ll be transferred to Sharm El Sheikh, our wonderful Red Sea resort on the Sinai Peninsular, one of the most popular regions of Egypt today.

Day 10: Today is yours to do as you please and enjoy all that Sharm has to offer, whether that be laying on the sand and enjoying the warm Red Sea waters or shopping for a bargain at any one of a number of amazing stalls in the bazaar, and their ever so  friendly shopkeepers. This evening we journey out to the desert and experience a Bedouin dinner in traditional style.

Day 11: Today we have an excursion planned to Dahab. Similar to Sharm el Sheikh only in the fact that they share the Sinai. Dahab represents more how Sharm el Sheikh used to be, prior to its major developments. On the way back we’ll visit St Catherine’s Monastery, noted site of the biblical ‘burning bush’ apparition to Moses. It is claimed the bush still there, is the original bush from this period. St Catherine’s is situated at the foot of Mt Sinai, where Moses was given the Ten Commandments from God. On our return we’ll venture via the incredible Sand dunes and oasis at Ain Khudra, accessible only by 4wd and camel

SHARM EL SHEIK - LUXOR                                                                    one night in Luxor

Day 12: This morning we will be transferred to the airport for our flight to Luxor.

Day 13: Luxor, a city of approximately 150,000 people is often referred to as the world’s greatest open air museum. Our sightseeing tour this morning is intended as an overview of the city, but will also include visits to the Temples of Karnak and Luxor. At lunchtime we join our 5 star Nile cruise vessel.

LUXOR –ESNA – EDFU – KOM POMBO - ASWAN                             four nights on Nile Cruise

Day 13-17: Cruising the Nile. Highlights during the cruise will include the Valley of Kings and temple of Queen Hatshepsut and Memnom Colossi in Luxor. Crossing the locks between Esna and Edfu, the Temple of Edfu, sailing on to Kom Ombo and visiting the Temple of Kom Ombo. We then sail on to Aswan where we’ll visit the High Dam, Temple of Philae and unfinished obelisk, and in the afternoon we’ll sail by felucca around the Botanical gardens.

ASWAN – ABU SIMBEL                                                            one night in  Abu Simbel

Day 17:  After an early breakfast this morning we disembark our cruise boat and make our way to the airport for our flight to Abu Simbel. We’ll be seeing the incredible Temples of Pharaoh Ramesses ll and his Queen Nefertari, which share an incredible history as well as an amazing story of removal and relocation to their current position when threatened with being lost under water in Lake Nasser when the high dam was constructed. This evening we will be treated to an incredible ‘sound and light’ show.

ABU SIMBEL – CAIRO                                                                 three nights in Cairo

Day 18: With the morning in Abu Simbel there’s a final opportunity to appreciate and admire this remote land before we catch our flight to Cairo. The remainder of the day is at leisure.

Day 19:  We have a huge day planned for today. We are on our way to Giza to see the Great Pyramids and the Solar Boat discovered in 1954 consisting of over 1200 pieces of Cedar and constructed without the use of any nails, pegs or other connectors! It is the funeral boat of King Khufu though controversy remains as to whether or not it was indeed used for the purpose it was intended. We will also visit Memphis and Sakkara, which played important parts in the formative years of Egypt’s history. This evening we return to the Pyramids for a spectacular ‘sound and light show’ that isn’t to be missed.

Day 20: We have another full day of sightseeing today including the Egyptian Museum and Saladin Citadel, dating back to 810 AD perched on a limestone spur and enjoying a great vantage point over which occupants could see invaders long before they reached the fortified walls, some 30ft high and 10ft thick during the rule of Selah-ad-Din. We’ll also allow some time for you to shop and explore the famous Khan El Khalili Bazaar.

CAIRO – SINGAPORE – NEW ZEALAND

Day 21-23: As with all good things today our tour sadly draws to an end and we will be transferred to the airport for our flight homeward. After a stopover we arrive back in New Zealand, heads filled with the knowledge we’ve inherited over the past few weeks together with many wonderful memories that will stay with us forever.
