NEW ZEALAND – NEW YORK

Day 1: We depart for our journey of discovery into the best of the East Coast of the USA, planned to coincide with one of the most exciting times of the year, the 4th of July, and what better place to celebrate than in New York!

NEW YORK (four nights New York)

Days 2-3: We spend the following two days sightseeing including some of the most visited sites in New York City. We begin with a relaxing ferry ride out to the incredible Statue of Liberty, an icon synonymous with the ‘USA’. On our return we’ll walk from Battery Park via the historic, Charging Bull symbolising Wall St and then on to the more sobering Ground Zero where once stood the World Trade Centre, better known as the Twin Towers. Also during our time in New York we’ll see Central Park, Broadway and one of the greatest views in the world from the rooftop of the Rockefeller Centre. We’ll venture through the famous neighbourhood of Harlem and there may even be an opportunity to walk across part of the Brooklyn Bridge. For shoppers, we’re going to show you one of America’s best kept shopping secrets, the Century 21 Mall. We’ll see Times Square and the mighty Hudson River, and on the 4th of July we’ll celebrate American Independence Day with a spectacular fireworks display in the evening.

Day 4: A full day free to explore more of New York. Shopping, sightseeing, a stroll through Central Park or a walk along Broadway, there’s no shortage of fantastic ways to fill your day. This evening there’s an option to experience a true Broadway show!

NEW YORK – PHILADELPHIA (one night Philadelphia)

Day 5: Today we depart New York through New Jersey, Pennsylvania and on to the city of brotherly love Philadelphia. Our sightseeing will include a visit to the famous Liberty Bell, Constitution Square and Constitution Hall, one of the many symbols of freedom in America.

PHILADELPHIA – LANCASTER – HERSHEY – GETTYSBURG (two nights Gettysburg)

Day 6: Continuing westward, we head towards Lancaster where the highlight will be a visit to an Amish Country Homestead. We’ll learn how they live without the benefit of modern technology, no electricity, running water, telephone service or appliances, and how they maintain their beliefs in a world very different to their own. After lunch at a local restaurant we’ll continue to Hershey Chocolate World for a factory tour and sampling of chocolates before making our final stop for the day at Gettysburg.

Day 7: We begin the day with a visit to the historic battlefields of Gettysburg. The Battle of Gettysburg was a critical turning point in the American Civil War, a conflict that determined the fate of the United States and in which the largest number of casualties was inflicted. In the afternoon we’ll visit the National Civil War Museum Gettysburg.

GETTYSBURG – SHENANDOAH NATIONAL PARK (one night Shenandoah National Park)

Day 8: Today we’re bound for Shenandoah National Park, with further historical significance in the American civil war, and immortalised by singer John Denver in his hit ‘take me home, country roads’ with reference to “Blue Ridge mountains, Shenandoah River”.

SHENANDOAH – RICHMOND – WILLIAMSBURG (two nights Williamsburg)

Day 9: En route to Williamsburg we stop in Richmond for a sightseeing tour including the State Capital Building and Richmond Park. We’ll also have an opportunity to look around the museum and White House of Confederacy.

Day 10: Today we visit Jamestown, the first successful English settlement on the mainland of North America. Named for King James I of England, and intended as a prospect for Gold mining offering handsome returns for its investors. In the afternoon we make our way to Yorktown to visit the battlefields of the last major land battle of the American Civil War.

WILLIAMSBURG – YORKTOWN – WASHINGTON DC (two nights Washington DC)

Day 11: With a scenic drive ahead of us today we travel to Washington D.C, capital of the United States. On arrival we’ll enjoy a brief orientation tour prior to our days sightseeing tomorrow.

Day 12: Over the next day and a half we’ll experience the best of Washington D.C including the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, the White House visitors centre, Capitol Hill and entrance to the Smithsonian Institute National Air and Space Museum.

WASHINGTON DC – BALTIMORE

Day 13: Upon leaving our hotel today and rounding off our sightseeing in Washington, we’ll be taken to the Port of Baltimore to join our cruise, and the next exciting stage of our tour. Onboard, relaxation and pampering take on a whole new meaning, and we’ll be unpacking only once for the next nine days as we cruise the Atlantic coast of the USA.

CRUISING - ENCHANTMENT OF THE SEAS nine nights

Day 13: Baltimore, Maryland – With a world-class aquarium, and fantastic food, Baltimore is filled with things to do and see. The prime spot for activity is the Inner Harbour, where we’ll find the Harbourside Shopping Pavilion, Oriole Park at Camden Yards, the National Aquarium and Port Discovery. Plus, there are a number of historical sites nearby, including Mount Vernon and Federal Hill.

Day 14: Cruising

Day 15: Portland, Maine – Portland offers a unique combination of Maine’s rich history and its own vibrant culture. Local artisans offer their handiwork along the streets of the Arts District and the Old Port Exchange. Colourful boats line the shores of Casco Bay, and wonderful freshly cooked seafood abounds in this charming seaside town.

Day 16: Bar Harbour, Maine – Nestled on the east side of Mt. Desert Island and surrounded by Acadia National Park, Bar Harbour features some of the most spectacular scenery on the Eastern Seaboard. The rock-bound coast, soaring granite cliffs, majestic mountains and blue waters continue to enchant visitors.

Day 17: Saint John, New Brunswick – Founded by Loyalists escaping the Revolutionary War in 1785, Saint John has emerged as a thriving port city. Its restored historic waterfront and surrounding natural beauty have made Saint John a wonderful destination.

Day 18: Halifax, Nova Scotia – As our ship comes into port, a bagpiper will welcome us to Halifax, the capital city of Nova Scotia. The “City of Trees” offers the warmth and charm of a small town along with all the excitement we would expect from a great city. Peggy’s Cove, Citadel Hill, and the Acadian Country are just a few of the sights that will herald our arrival here.

Day 19: Cruising

Day 20: Boston, Massachusetts – The cradle of the American Revolution and one of the oldest cities in the United States, Boston remains the metropolitan centre of New England. With an unrivalled history, old New England charm and cosmopolitan sophistication, Boston offers a fascinating travel experience to any visitor.

Day 21: Cruising

Day 22: Baltimore, Maryland – This morning we arrive back into Baltimore to continue our tour on land. We’ll be met and taken to Washington airport for our flight to the bay city of San Francisco. The afternoon and evening are yours to enjoy the ‘city on the bay’.

BALTIMORE – WASHINGTON – SAN FRANCISCO (two nights San Francisco)

Day 23: Today is yours to do as you please. For first time visitors the appeal of riding the cable car is always a draw, and the myths and mystery surrounding the rock better known as Alcatraz will seduce the inquisitive. No matter how many times you’ve been before, San Francisco has something for everyone from walking Fishermans wharf, to shopping in Chinatown or a trip across the distinctive Golden Gate Bridge. Your experience is limited only by your imagination!

SAN FRANCISCO – NEW ZEALAND

Days 24-26: With the morning offering a final opportunity for souvenir gathering, or brunching on Fishermans Wharf we bid farewell to Uncle Sam and the good ol’ USA for now as we make our late afternoon flight from San Francisco bound for New Zealand, sadly drawing to an end our wonderful tour and time spent together with new found friends.
